so here goes.. my first attempt at a blog!
For those of you who do not know me, I am a 38 year old Pilot working for British Airways and I also volunteer for the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust as an Emergency Responder. Helping others is something that gives me a huge sense of fulfilment (they say there is no such thing as a selfless act….right??) whilst giving something back to the community.
I’ve always wanted to raise money for charity, although I didn’t really know how I wanted to do it. Until I was at a Halloween Party and my good friend David Martin told me of this opportunity to be involved in an IRONMAN Triathlon as part of a team formed by Mr Gordon Ramsay. I have to say that my initial reaction to the invite involved several swear words followed by a definitive NO!
After several weeks of badgering (well more like begging!) I decided that maybe this was a good way to raise some money for charity whilst completing a ‘life’ event at the same time.
The Gordon Ramsay Foundation, is a charity that has been set up by Gordon and his wife Tana to make a meaningful difference to their chosen causes. The aim of the charity is to raise over £1 Million within 2 years.
One of the main charities that the GR Foundation donate to is Cancer Research UK. This is a charity that is very close to my heart.
Six years ago I lost a very good friend and Personal Trainer, Neil Shannon to Bowel Cancer. I also lost my uncle Micheal McKeown to Cancer.
LETS BEAT CANCER SOONER!! Raising money for this charity can only help Cancer Research UK achieve its goal.
So here I am at the start of a very long road which will eventually take me to Staffordshire on 14th June to compete in the IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon. 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, 13.1 mile run.
The official training starts on monday, and I am relying on your support and the support and patience of my lovely girlfriend Hannah to get me through it. I’ll blog as much as I can so that you can keep and eye on my progress.
In the meantime, please feel free to drop by my Just Giving page and help me reach my goal of £5000.
Thanks for stopping by!!
